More Adwords Tips & Tricks:

Make a Banner

Go into an image or picture editing program like Gimp and create a 728x90 Banner and a 468x60 Banner. To do this in Gimp, click "File" along the top of the Main Menu. Then from the drop down menu choose "New" and here you will be able to change the pixel size to the sizes I just mentioned above. Then you can create your picture in Gimp and save it (export it) to your computer and it will save as the size you specified, which will be your banner. Make it interesting so people are more likely to click on it. To save money, make sure that you add your domainname address (Like I have added "RichKits.com" in the banner below), because some people see the banner and don't trust it so they go to google or somewhere to type in the domain to go directly to your website without clicking on your banner. This will obviously save you money because you will not have to pay for anything since they didn't click on the banner. Trust me, lots of people do this.

Here's an example of what a banner should look like when you finish making it:

Now make your list of Keywords by following the instructions I layed out above. Add the Keywords to your AdWords campaign and set your bids at at a very low CPC (.10 cents - .20 cents) and choose "Create Image Ads" instead of "Text Ads". It will say they are inactive for search, but that does not matter. We are not trying to place the banners in google search results, we are trying to place them on the content networks. Remember Alicia's website that we talked about earlier? Well there's many people like Alicia who have websites with AdSense and they prefer banner ads on their websites too so they can make more money from all the clicks. So after you set it to a low cpc, wait a while to see if you get a decent amount of clicks. If so, then reduce your CPC to an even lower amount to see if you can save money by still getting clicks for a lower fee. Depending on the popularity of what you are selling, you may be able to get .01 cent clicks. S o your banners will be clickable and noticable and you will be paying alot less per click than using the regular ads since content network is cheaper. Content network basically just means that your ad will appear on other people's websites, not in google search results.

Test Keywords:

The best way to get an idea of what Keywords are working and which are not, is to test them. This can be done many ways and I have listed some of the best ways below.

Phrase Match

Phrase Match is when you add keywords (keyphrases) by putting quotation marks around them. For example, instead of typing the phrase HOW TO PLAY CARDS, I should try adding quotation marks before and after so it looks like "HOW TO PLAY CARDS". This is telling google to show my ads when someone searches for that EXACT PHRASE, in that EXACT ORDER. They may add words before or after when they search such as HOW TO PLAY CARDS ONLINE, but if you enter in the exact phrase "HOW TO PLAY CARDS", then the person who searched for HOW TO PLAY CARDS ONLINE will see your ad because he searched for that exact phrase.

Exact Match

Putting [brackets] around your phrases instead of "quotations" will result in even more filtered searches. By putting brackets around phrases, you will narrow down which exact key phrases work best, without any extra words added before or after the main phrase you put in brackets. For instance, if you have the phrases "make money online" and "make online money" as keywords, put brackets around both phrases so they will look like [make money online] and [make online money]. Before you put the brackets around the words, google would show your ads for any of those 3 words searched by someone on Google at the same time no matter what order they are typed in and maybe even with other words they may have searched for.

Now that you have put the brackets around the words, Google will only show your ads when someone types in those EXACT phrases in that EXACT order with NO OTHER WORDS added before or after that. Just THAT EXACT PHRASE ALL BY ITSELF. So now, you will have less advertiser competition and you will know which phrase people are searching for rather then just which words so you can use that phrase over and over again in brackets and gain customers searching for that exact phrase. Not too many advertisers use this method or know about it, so you may reach customers who are searching for something that most advertisers are not adveritising for. Your ads could end up being the only ads people see in search results when they type those exact phrases. That means clicks will cost less for you and plus you can make alot more money since you will have more customers than before.

Negative Match

With Negative Match, you can exclude words from searches when showing your ads. For example, let's say you are sellingsomething like ringtones. You want your ads to show when people search for the phrase "download ringtones". The only problem is that some of those people might be looking for free ringtones. You obviously wouldn't want them to click on your ads because they will see that you have to pay for it and leave and then you wasted money paying for the click to your ad. The way youwould stop people like that from clicking on your ad is to "disqualify" them from seeing your ads when they perform the search in google. How do you do this? Just add a minus sign before a word you want to exclude. So I don't want people coming to my site or clicking on my ad that are looking for free ringtones so I would use the following keyphrases: download ringtones -free. Notice how I put the negative sign right before the word "free"? Now when people search for something like: free ringtones download OR download ringtones for free, they will not see my ad and will not cost me any unnecessary money.

Quality:

Another important way of saving money using Adwords is to keep a high quality level with your ads. What this means is that you should make sure that the content of your ads is relevant. Make sure that what you say in your ads is exactly what people will find on your site. Google charges cheaper rates if you do this.

Position:

Position really matters. You should always check to see what position your ads are in when doing a google search. If you are advertising ringtones and most of your clicks are coming from the phrase "download ringtones", then you should go to google and type in "download ringtones" and try to find your own ad in the google search results. Make a note of where your ad is and increase your bids. Pay more for advertising that way your ad will get a higher position in search results. You don't want the #1 position. You want to leave the #1 position for big companies who don't mind spending lots on advertising. You want one of the positions that come right after that such as Second or Third position. What many people do not realize and what Google doesn't advertise much is that Google actually charges less for clicks, the more clicks you get.

But it all depends on your CTR. Google rewards those with a higher percentage click through rate. If you get more clicks than your competitors, with less impressions, Google will give you a discount and charge you less on each click after a few days. If your ad hows up in search results as the second or third ad down the page, you will get many clicks and will not have to pay as much as the first position. The second and third positions are just as visible as the first but you will have to pay alot more if you are first position. If you overbid and pay so much that your ad becomes first position, just decrease the bids a little until you become second or third again or somewhere in that range. So it's best to try increasing/decreasing your bids and trying different positions till you find something that works for you and is making you more money than you're spending.

Adsense Bonus Advice: Building Website Directories from Free Information

The following information requires that you build a website. If you need help building a website, I've included an entire guide with tips and tricks for this HERE for free to help you if you need it. The main trick with adsense is to build a huge website since Google favors larger websites with more pages. You can easily make money from adsense on a 1 page website if you know how to drive traffic to it. But if your website has many pages to it, you will have an advantage because then even if you don't build traffic to your site, Google will still index your site so people searching for similar things will see your website in Google results and visit it. I tried to think of the easiest, quickest way to build a very large website that contains many pages of information. Then one night my friend had asked me if I knew of any free dental clinics because he did not have dental insurance and wanted to get a tooth looked at. A lightbulb went off in my head......Directories.

If you build a website directory on a certain topic, you are sure to get visitors. Building a directory ensures visitors because it would require many pages to build a directory. I found a directory for free clinics and I've included pictures below to show you what I mean. Building a large website couldn't be any easier than this. You can build a website which lists information for certain companies. In the demonstration below, I've used Free Medical Clinics as an example. There is only a few free medical clinics in every city. Some cities may only have 1 if it's a smaller city. There's only so many cities in every state. But there is enough free medical clinics, cities, and states, to make a very large informational website about all of them. In the picture below, the states are all listed on the main page.

I clicked on the state of California, and it brought me to the next page where all the major cities are located.

I clicked on the city of San Francisco, and it brought me to the next page where all the free medical clinics are located in the city of San Francisco.

I clicked on one of the free medical clinics in the city of San Francisco and it brought me to a page which lists all the information about that specific medical clinic.

Now imagine if this was your website. You could add Google Adsense ads all over this website on every page we just clicked on. You will have all kinds of visitors to the site because it appeals to all kinds of searches. Somebody who searches for "California Free Medical Clinics" will find this site. Another person who searches for "San Francisco Clinics" will find this site. Someone else who searches for "Haight Ashbury Medical Clinic" or any other specific clinic by name will find this site. Even people searching for a specific clinic's phone number, address, or hours of operation will find this site. Imagine this multiplied by every free clinic in every city in every state. That's alot of visitors you will have! The more visitors, the more probability that they will click on your Adsense ads.

Just think of all the other types of sites you can create that are similar to this. Maybe a directory for fire departments, or tax offices, or pizza restaurants(well there's alot of pizza restaurants so maybe not that because that would take forever, but maybe you could do it for only pizza restaurants that deliver 24 hours a day). The best part for you is that all this information is free, very easy to find, and legal to copy. It's public information! It's basically the same information that is in your phone book! To collect this information and start building your site, you can use yellowbook.com or simply use Google. For example, if this was your site, you might have gone to yellowbook.com and typed in "Free Medical Clinic" and "San Francisco, CA".

All the basic information is right there for you. Just copy and paste it into your website. Easy!

If you need more information than what is listed in yellowbook, then simply do a Google search for "Free Medical Clinic San Francisco".

Google will supply you with the websites for the free clinics and all you have to do is click on the links to visit the websites and obtain the information you need. All the phone numbers, addresses, and hours of operation will probably be listed on the "Contact" or "Information" page on each of these websites. To get more free medical clinics in San Francisco, simply click the link under those results which reads "more results near San Francisco, CA".
