In this guide I will explain everything you need to know about the domain business and I will teach you all the tips and
tricks the pro's use to make daily income with domains.
Introduction
If you don't know what domains are, here is a
quick explanation. Domains (also called Domain Names), are web
addresses.
Ebay.com is a domain name. Google.com is another domain name. Well, you get the picture. You need a domain to build a
website. A website needs a home and that is what a domain is. It's like a home for websites. Usually, people register domains
first and then build websites for the domains. Most hosting companies offer domain registration services such as GoDaddy.com
and Moniker.com in addition to hosting websites. You need a domain to have a website, but you do not need a website to
make money with domains...Domains have value just like real estate or gold. Just like beach front property or land, there is only
so much. As more and more domain names become registered, there is less and less short names available.
So this makes the value rise. In October of 2007, there was over 1000 four letter domains available (Example: ldxv.com or qzdu.com)
By December of 2007, 2 months later, those 1000 domains were registered by people and there were none available. In October
you could have registered all 1000 domains for around $8.00 each. In December prices for each 4 letter domain name on ebay were
a minimum of $40.00 each. (Whoever regged all 1000 domains made a nice profit. They had to have made a minimum of $32,000.
Not bad. That's around $10,000 a month) Not all domains have worth though. If you purchase fjkdjfie.com, it's not worth anything.
In order to own a domain, you must first register one or purchase one. When a domain is brand new, when nobody has ever thought
of a particular name for a domain, it is unregistered. It does not even exist because nobody has ever thought of the name before.
Ebay.com exists because someone thought it sounded like a good name and decided to build a website and business on it.
Ebay.com is a 4 letter domain. 4 letter domains are going up in value because there are no more unregistered ones.
Since ebay is pronouncable, it is worth even more. 3 letter domains can easily fetch thousands of dollars because there
have not been any available for many years now. Ebay.com was created many many years ago. But because it's a four
letter name, it's worth something. Because it was registered a long time ago, it's worth something. Because somebody
built a well known business with the name, it's worth ALOT.
There are many factors that determine a domain's worth. A short domain name is always good, but once in a while
longer names might have more value then shorter names, based on many other factors. But I have to admit, the first
thing I would do when registering a domain name (or purchasing one from somebody else), is look at the name.
A short name is more attractive because it's easier for people to remember, so it is easier to promote and advertise with.
Easier to build a namebrand or business with. Ever notice how most of the largest internet companies have 1 word names?
Google, Cisco, Yahoo, Ebay......If you want a short name, there are still many available.
But there are no more 3 or 4 letter .com's available anymore. They have all been registered already.
You can still find some pronouncable 5 letter domain names available. A very good tool for finding 5 letters is 5letter.com
(This site may be down due to maintenence issues they have been having lately. If it's down, just check back another time.)
Another thing that determines a domains worth is traffic. Traffic is actually what determines a domains value more than anything.
Traffic is how many people visit a website in a day or a month. If your domain name has lots of visitors everyday, without you
having to do anything to keep those visitors coming, your website is worth something. It's worth something because now anybody
with a product to sell could purchase your domain name, set up a website on it and instantly have people visiting the site, even
without any advertising. Traffic can come from many different places, but most of the time it comes from backlinks and advertising.
Backlinks are links which lead people back to a website. Ebay.com has tons of backlinks. Lots of people talk about ebay on the internet
and post links to ebay items on other websites. So when someone clicks on one of those links, it will bring them to ebay's website.
Domains with traffic are most valuable because traffic equals customers and customers equal money. Many people are willing to pay
alot of money for domain names that have lots of traffic and backlinks. You can take a look at how much domains with traffic
are selling for at tdnam.com (godaddy's auction site) or Sedo.com. Sex.com sold for 14 Million dollars because it is short, it's
brandable (meaning that you can very easily create a brand, a product or a business with it), it has about 7 million backlinks on the
internet, and it's old (It's been around longer than 10 years). Also, it probably has alot of type-in traffic. Type-in traffic is when you
receive traffic to your website from people who are typing the actual url address in the address bar at the top of their screen.
For example, If I want to find an office chair online, I might go to google and search for "office chairs", or...I might go to the url
address bar at the top of my internet explorer or firefox and type in the actual address www.officechairs.com. If I were to type in the
actual address, that would be what we call "Type-In Traffic". Type-in traffic is very valuable because it means that a website
does not need to advertise at all or create backlinks to get people to come to their website. Professionals usually research
previous sales of domain names when deciding which domain name to purchase or register and for how much. A great tool to
do this is at NameBio.com. It gives you the ability to look at what domains have sold in the past and what prices they sold at.
You can also just check the marketplace where domains are being sold. The 5 most popular places where domains sell is Sedo.com,
TDNAM.com, Moniker.com, Ebay.com and Afternic.com (and Afternic Bazaar ). There are many different ways to build up backlinks to your
domain and I will explain this more in detail later.
Extensions
There are many different extensions for domains. You probably already knew this, but just in case you don't, I'll explain.
There are .com's, .net's, .info's, .org's, .mobi's (extension for mobile devices, cell phones have small screens so if you wanted
to make a website that is small that people on cell phones can see more easily when they are using their cell phones to surf the
internet, you would get a .mobi extension instead of .com or .net etc.). Extensions can mean something like how .mobi means
it's for mobile devices, and they can also designate countries. For example, .th is the country code for Thailand. Also, .co.uk
is the extension for people in the United Kingdom. So if I wanted to make a website about Thailand, I might choose the
domain name www.thailand.th insteadof www.thailand.info, because people in Thailand probably only know .com,
.net and .th. and the .com and .net names are already taken. If www.thailand.th was taken, I might choose www.thailand.tl
(Extension for the country of Timor/Timor-Leste) because Timor is one of the countries close to Thailand and people
there probably look up Thailand on the internet alot. But .com is always more valuable though because everybody
in the world knows .com. If you can't have a .com, then .net is usually the next in line as far as value.
How to Register a Domain Name
I've used GoDaddy.com as an example since they are the most well known domain registrar. Below are instructions for how
to register a domain there. After signing up for a godaddy account (which is free), log in with your username and password
![]()
Find the box at either the top or the middle of the screen and type in the domain you want to register and choose an extension
(.com, .net, .info etc.)
(If the domain is already taken it will tell you on the next screen)
I used richkitz.com as an example since I knew this domain name was available.
This is what the screen will look like when you find a domain name that is available.
Scroll down towards the bottom of the screen and click the button "Proceed to Checkout"
Ok this is where godaddy trys to get you to buy more stuff. It's very sneaky of them but make sure you don't fall for this trick.
Click where it says "No Thanks.Continue to checkout...".
Once Again, GoDaddy will try to sell you extra things here. For Registration Length, I choose "1 year".
For Auto-Renew Protection, I choose "Manual"(this means that in 1 year you will have to come back to godaddy
and renew your domain, it will not renew itself). Then at the bottom I choose "No thanks, I'm ready to checkout".
Then I click the "Continue" button.

Now you will fill out all needed information, or just sign in if this isn't your first time.
Click either the "Secure Login" button or "Continue" button when you are finished.
On the last screen, just check over everything and make sure everything is correct and then choose
a Payment Method, then check the Registration Agreement and Terms of Service
at the bottom. Click "Checkout Now" when you are ready to pay for your domain.
How to Find Good Names
There are many ways to find good names and I will go over the most common techniques as well as the tricks and
short cuts I use to find my names. There are 2 initial routes you can take. You can choose to either buy a domain
that has already been registered (and most likely established as a website at sometime), or to register a brand new
domain name for the first time. There are many benefits to purchasing a name from somebody else that has already
been registered. Older domains may still be getting traffic. The traffic may be coming from returning visitors from
when the domain was a website and people remember it or have it saved in their favorites, or it could be coming
from backlinks. A Backlink is any link on the internet that leads people back to your website. For example,
let's pretend that a person named Lisa owns the website www.buy-in-bulk.com and the year is 2008.
Let's also pretend that there is a guy named Joe who has a website called www.wholesaleratingsandreviews.com.
Ok, so Lisa's website is www.buy-in-bulk.com and she sells wholesale products and Joe has a website that
talks about websites like Lisa's.Joe's website is a review site that reviews and rates different wholesale companies
or websites. Well one day Joe decides to talk about Lisa's website on his website and Joe says on his website
something like "Today I found this website called Buy-In-Bulk.com and they had fantastic wholesale products!
You can visit their website here: http://www.buy-in-bulk.com. Well this is Lisa's lucky day because Joe just
made a backlink for Lisa. Now, when somebody visits Joe's website, there is a link on his website that
visitors can click which brings those visitors back to Lisa's website. So maybe those people will become Lisa's
customers. Understand? Ok, now let's say that in 2008 buy-in-bulkwas doing great but then in 2009 they go out
of business or they decide that they want a better domain name to use for their website...Now there is no more website
at www.buy-in-bulk.com. The website no longer exists, just the domain name. But Joe has such a large
website and never checks his old pages so the backlink is still on Joe's website. So people are still going to
www.buy-in-bulk.com even though there is no website there. Now imagine if there were lots of people like Joe
thathad mentioned buy-in-bulk.com on their websites and added backlinks...That would mean lots of people
would still be visiting that address at www.buy-in-bulk even if there is no website there. Now what if you
saw somebody selling the domain name buy-in-bulk.com? What if Lisa decided to sell this name one
day anddidn't realize how valuable it is now with all this traffic it still has? Even better, what if Lisa didn't even
think it wasworth selling and just let it expire...When you own a domain or register a domain for the first time,
you have to pay renewal fees on it every year. There is a one time renewal fee that you must pay every year to the
registrar (For example, if your domain is registered through Godaddy then you have to pay them somewhere between
$7-12 onthe renewal date each year). Most registrars will allow you to pay for many years in advance if you want.
There is usually a grace period after your deadline so you have a couple days or weeks after the expiration date to pay.
But if you do not pay the renewal fee, your domain will expire and anybody else can buy it at that time. It's free to the public
and anybody can re-register it under their name and the original person who registered it (Lisa in this case) would lose
the domain to the new person who renewed it. In other words, the domain name would have a brand new owner.
You can check for domains about to expire at websites such as justdropped.com and expireddomains.com. You may
have to pay more than just the registration fee if other people are bidding on the name but most of the time, if you see it
before anyone else does, you get it before them if you reserve it in advance or catch the name right when it drops
(You will most likely have to reserve them because very few people are lucky enough to just catch valuable
expired names on the day they drop.).
So let's pretend Lisa forgot to renew her domain, and you saw that it was about to expire. Now you purchase Lisa's expired
domainand only pay the registration fee. You now have a domain name that receives traffic everyday from all those old
backlinks. Traffic is very valuable becausenow you can build a profitable website and already have customers coming to your website
without any advertising, or you can park it and get paid per click or you can resell it for alot more to a company or anybody else
(I will discuss parking domains and reselling domains later in this guide.)
How to Transfer Domain
Names (After You Sell Them)
Again, I am using GoDaddy.com just as an example. The transfer process is similar with most domain registars.
After you go to GoDaddy's website, log in using your username and password. Then click the "Domains"
button on the menu in the top left part of the screen. Choose "My Domains" from the drop down menu.
First, find the domain you are going to transfer. It's probably locked so if it says under the Status bar "Locked" or
"Active - Locked", then you will need to unlock it. To unlock your domain, go to the menu at the top of the screen and
click on the Lock icon which reads "Locking".
On the next screen, you will want to choose the "Unlock" option and then click "Ok" to unlock your domain name.
Now find the domain in your account that you just unlocked and put a check next to it to indicate that it's the only domain you want to
make a change to. Then, after you checkmark the domain, click on the "Account Change" icon in the menu at the top of the screen.
Now fill out all the information of the person you want to transfer the domain to. If you are selling the domain on ebay,
you will want to ask the person for all of this information if they have not given it to you already. Many people who
pay for domains with paypal assume that you will use their paypal information to input into this section. Many people I
have sold domains to assume that all you need to transfer to them is their godaddy id number, which is not true. For
organization I usually put "NA" for non-applicable if they do not tell me what organization or business name they want there.
I usually leave fax blank too if they do not provide me one. Then I check the 2 checkmarks at the bottom and click the
"Next" button to go to the next screen.
On the next screen you will just confirm all of this again so click "Next" or "Continue" or "Finish" to complete the transfer.
If the transfer was successful, your recipient should receive an email from godaddy to accept the transfer (Next to the domain in your
domain portfolio, it may say "updating" for a few minutes to a few hours. This means that it is in in the process of transferring).
After they acknowledge the email and accept the transfer, you will receive an email stating that the transfer was successful
and
they have received the domain into their account.
Parking
Parking is when you have a domain that does not have a website or hosting. When you have a website,
you have to pay for monthly hosting. When you have a domain name, you do not have hosting or a website
or montly fees, all you have is a domain name. So there really isn't too many ways to make money with just
a domain name unless you sell it right? WRONG! One of the best ways to make passive income is parking domains.
Parking is when you take a domain of yours and sign up for a parking service with it. You park your domain with a company,
which means that they put ads on your domain that are relevant to the name of your domain. It is almost like they put a mini
website on your domain. So let's say Lisa does not have a website at buy-in-bulk.com anymore. It's just the domain name.
When people go to www.buy-in-bulk.com, there will most likely be nothing there but a blank screen that reads "server not found".
But if Lisa decides to park her domain, there will be ads placed there. So if she parks it and I go to Joe's website, and I click on the
backlink on Joe's website, it will bring me to Lisa's parked page, which will look like a one page website with ads and links all over the page.
If I click on one of those ads or links, then it will take me to an advertisers website. Since I clicked on the link, the advertiser pays the parking
company and the parking company pays Lisa. Lisa gets paid because it was her domain buy-in-bulk.com that had the ads on it and the parking
company gets paid because they set up the ads on Lisa's page. Clicks can vary from a few cents to 50 dollars. In general, most clicks will pay
Lisa between .10 cents and .40 cents. Lisa has a domain that has a name related to the wholesale industry. If Lisa had a domain name
like "FindALawyer.com", then she would make alot more than .10-.40 cents because when somebody clicks on her ads (which would be
lawyer related ads if she has a lawyer related domain name), that person who clicked on the ad would be brought to a lawyer's website
and lawyers make alot more money from customers than people in the wholesale industry. So a lawyer who is paying for advertising
will have to pay alot more for advertising space to compete with other lawyers. So that lawyer might be willing to pay the parking
service $90 for 1 click and maybe the parking service will pay Lisa $30 for that click. This is highly unlikely but it's been
known to happen and lawyer clicks are at least .75 cents minimum. Parking companies don't tell you how much they are paid
by advertisers per click (at least not yet) so you will never know just how much of a percentage you are getting, but it's better than
nothing I always say. If you want to get around this, you can always make your own parking company..but that's alot of hard work.
Most parking companies have strict rules about links. Most of them will not allow you to build links to your domain WHILE it is
parked. The only traffic your parked domain is allowed to recieve is from old backlinks that were present BEFORE your domain
was parked, or from type in traffic. You will not get traffic from people who search the search engines like Google because there is no
website so your domain is usally not indexed by Google. Sometimes google may index it by accident and then realize it's not a website
and they will un-index it. The search engines like Google can not see the domain unless someone searches for actual keywords that are
in the domain name (Example: Someone searching for "wholesale" is not going to see Lisa's domain because buy-in-bulk.com does
not contain the word "wholesale", but someone searching for "buy bulk" may come across Lisa's parked domain in search results
because her domain name contains both those words in it).
How to Park Domains:
I've used Sedo.com as an example of parking companies since they are the most well known. Sedo is a good platform to learn on
but once you learn more about parking and become familiar with it, you should try out other parking companies.
They all pay differently for clicks and some parking companies are better than others for certain domains. Fabulous.com is
known for paying well for gambling names while NameDrive.com is good for financial names.
Once you log in to Sedo, go to the menu on the left and choose "Add Domains" to add your domains to Sedo.
When you are ready to move on, click "Next" at the bottom.
Now type your domain names in the white box or copy and paste them there.
Then check mark the user agreement and click the "Next" button to continue.
I've used richkits.com as an example of a domain I'm adding. On the next screen, you will decide if you
want to also sell this domain, in addition to parking it. Many parking companeis also have domain market
places so they will add a note on your parked page which reads something like "This domain is for sale: Contact Owner".
This allows people to send you offers for your domain if they are interested, while it is parked. For this one, I've set the
category to Marketing so Sedo can list my domain for sale in the Marketing section and I've set an asking price and a minimum
price I'm willing to sell the domain for. If you are adding multiple domains, you will have to do this for each domain unless
they all happen to be the same category and you want to sell them all for the same price.
Click "Next" at the bottom when you are ready to continue.

Now you will set your name servers. If you ever need to find this screen again, you can go up to the top of
the screen and choose "Park Domains" from the menu. Then choose "Redirect Domains" from the drop-down menu.
To set the name servers, you will want to copy both the Primary and Secondary Server Names.
For Sedo, the Primary is NS1.SEDOPARKING.COM, and for the Secondary it's NS2.SEDOPARKING.COM.
In the next step I will show you where you will paste these 2 addresses. Don't click the "next" button at the bottom of the
screen until you have pasted the name servers....

Go to your GoDaddy account by opening seperate window so you can still go back to your Sedo screen after this
(Once again, I am only using GoDaddy as an example. Assuming your domains are at GoDaddy).
Check the domain you would like to set the nameservers for and go up to the menu at the top of the screen and click
on the "Nameservers" icon.
Now you will paste the Nameservers into the appropriate boxes. Paste your Primary nameserver into the "Nameserver 1" box
and paste your Secondary nameserver into the "Nameserver 2" box. Click the "OK" button when your finished to set the nameservers.
Now that you have set the nameservers, go back to Sedo and click the "Next" button at the bottom of the screen to
continue. Now you will see a verification screen. Sedo will have to verify that you are the owner of the domain before
allowing you to park it and this may take anywhere between a few hours to 24 hours.
Now you will want to optimize your domain so click on the "Optimizer" link which is on the menu to the
left of the Sedo screen.
The first thing you want to do is set the keyword. This is what determines what type of ads will appear on your parked page.
Since my domain is about making money, I set the keywords as "make money". Keywords are everything and the keyword(s)
you choose will affect how many clicks you get and how much you will be paid for each click. It's best to try different keywords.
If I am not making any money from parking this domain after a few days, I might go back and try a different keyword.
Maybe I would try just "money" or "work from home". The next thing you want to set is the background pattern. I chose "lite".
This is just how the page will look and you can choose different patterns. Visitors to your parked page may be more inclined
to click an ad if you have a nicer looking page. The next thing I set is the photo. I chose "marketing" since my domain is dealing
with internet marketing and making money. After you choose your settings, click the "Save changes" button at the
bottom to save your choices.
Now your domain is parked. Your all finished. To view your daily statistics and how much you have made, you can click the
"Domain Parking" option on the menu on the left side of the Sedo screen. In your Sedo Parking Statistics, you can see how many
unique views, clicks, and money you are getting. Unique Views just means how many people have visited your parked page.
Clicks is how many times ads on your parked page have been clicked, and well, you know what money is.
Below is an example of what a parked page on Sedo might look like. Sedo is known as having some of the most boring,
ugliest looking parked pages out of all the companies out there which is another reason you might want to try other parking
companies once you get a basic understanding of how parking works. This page is for the domain CosmeticForums.com but the
owner of the domain did not optimize it very well (the keywords they chose are not relevant to the domain name).
You will notice that the ads on the page have nothing to do with Cosmetics or Forums
so this person probably does not get many clicks from this parked page.
The Tricks
Pump and Park
This is the oldest trick in the book and the most obvious one as well. "Pump and Park" occurs when somebody builds up
backlinks or traffic somehow BEFORE they park it. You can buy a domain name and buy cheap hosting,
then make a simple webpage for your domain or a blank page and start sending people there, then take the website down,
wait a few weeks just to make sure you are in the clear (with your parking company), and park it with a parking company.
Now all that traffic you just built up is going to a parked page with ads on it and you will get paid when people click on the ads.
Many people feel that it's a waste to send traffic to a parked page though. Myself included. This is the easiest way to make
money from traffic, but not necessarily the best. If you have any motivation (which you obviously do because you are taking
the time to read this guide), I recommend you learn about affiliate programs in order to fully cash in on any traffic you have
going to a domain or create your own product to sell on your own website. Parking is definately the easiest way to cash in
on traffic though. Sometimes people get frustrated when they get to a parked page, and they will click on ads they are not
even interested in, just to leave the page quickly. That just means more money for you everytime they click.
How to Find Good Type-In Traffic Names - Build a Type-In Empire:
One of the best kept secrets in the domain industry is "Domain Tasting". Not too many people talk about it,
but they all do it. Domain Tasting takes all the risk out of parking and allows you to "try before you buy".
There's a few companies I know of that will allow you to refund a domain within a certain amount of days
from the purchase date. You don't have to call them up or explain why you needed it refunded. Just purchase
the domain, park it for a few days and if you are not receiving type-in traffic and clicks, simply refund it and purchase
another one. The easiest place that I have found to do this is Dynadot.com . Dynadot allows you to refund your domain
within the Grace Period (I believe it's 5 days but you might want to check to make sure since websites change with time).
The only catch is that they do not actually refund your money, they give you credit towards buying your next domain
so all you have to do is keep buying domains with the same original funds you used to purchase your first domain.
To refund a domain, simply log in to Dynadot with your username and password , then click on the link at the top of the
main screen which reads "Account Area".
Now checkmark the domain you want to refund and choose "Request Deletion". The Grace period is
how long you have before you lose the option of refunding your domain. Either instantly, or sometimes
in a few hours, the domain will be deleted from your account and the money will be credited so you
can use it to purchase another domain. It only takes 1 day to realize if a domain is worth keeping or not.
If you are not receiving traffic within the first day, refund the domain for credit and use the credit to buy your
next domain. Good Idea huh!? I knew you'd like it!
Misspellings and Other Ways to Find Great Type-In Traffic:
When choosing a domain name that may have type-in traffic, there are many different things to consider. It's hard to tell
why a domain name might get type-in traffic but sometimes it's easy to figure out why. Misspellings happen all the time.
Ebay.com is a very popular website, so it's no surprise that Ebsy.com and Eaby.com are taken. Imagine how many people
visit Ebay everyday. Imagine how many of those people type in "www.ebay.com" instead of going to google and searching for
"ebay". Now imagine how many of those people typing in www.ebay.com, misspell it everday...LOTS!
Ebsy.com is great because the "a" in Ebay is right next to the "s" on a computer keyboard. Imagine if you had those
names and parked them....Cha-Ching!!! Misspellings can be very lucrative and everyday there is new products or popular
name brands invented or created on the internet with millions of visitors typing in their domain names in their address bars
and misspelling them. One of the most successful people in the domain investing industry has used alot of tricks and loopholes
to get where he is. To avoid any lawsuits, I won't mention any names but this guy owns alot of noteworthy domains that are
worth millions each. One of the tricks he came up with was using country codes, in combination with misspellings. He found out
that the extension for the country of Cameroon was .cm. Well supposedly the only people who can register .cm are residents of the
country Cameroon. Somehow, this domain investor found a way to work out a deal with the government of Cameroon even though
he is an american resident. He somehow got them to allow him to redirect names that are not registered, to his parked page.
The most popular domains have the extension ".com" after them. So imagine how many people misspell that and type ".cm" instead.
So if nobody in Cameroon registered the domain "richkits.cm" and I own "richkits.com", that would mean that this domain
investor is making money off of my name because if people misspell my domain name and type in "richkits.cm", it will bring them
to his parked page. If they click on one of the ads on his parked page, he will get paid and I am sure he is giving most of the profits
to the government of Cameroon or whoever the registry is for the ".cm" extension. Every name that is not registered with ".cm",
goes to this domain investor's parked page.
Predicting Trends
Another great way to find instant money making
domain names to park is to predict the future....well kind of.
Imagine if a sport was just invented or a new type of music or a new television show. Imagine if you owned hiphop.com
before hip hop became as popular as it did or emo.com. Emo just recently became a popular form of music. What if you saw
a commercial for a movie coming out and the people who directed the movie, forgot to register the domain name?
Sometimes this can be dangerous because if you choose a domain name that is trademarked and you try to profit from it,
you can be sued if the people who own trademark really want that name, so be careful. If you register a domain name that you think
somebody might try to trademark, trademark it first. You can get a trademark on phrases/domain names at http://tarr.uspto.gov/ .
Sometimes, the people who are directing the movie might actually dig into their pockets and purchase the name from the person
owning the domain. Sometimes even if the movie directors own trademarks on the word or phrase or title the domain refers to...
This is a domain investor's dream come true and it actually happens very often.....
Bulk Registration Technique
A great tool for registering good domain names is to use GoDaddy's Bulk Registration ToolThis allows
you to quickly check multiple domain names to see which ones are available for registration. Below is
instructions for an easy technique I use to compile lists of domains to check using the bulk registration tool.
First I open notepad or wordpad and then I make 2 lists of keywords. In this example I have chosen to use the states of
america for 1 list and I have chosen certain keywords such as "homes" and "lawyers" for the second list.
I highlight the word "homes" to copy it (To Copy easily: Hold down the CTRL key and hit the "C" key to copy).
Then I paste the word "homes" after each state (To Paste easily: Hold down the CTRL key and hit the "V" key to paste).
Then I highlight the list I just made and copy it (Again, Hold down the CTRL key and hit the "C" key to copy).
Then I go to GoDaddy.com and choose "Domains" in the upper left part of the screen and then
I choose "Bulk Register" from the down down menu.
Now I paste the list into the big white box and choose which extension (.com, .net, etc.)
I want, then I type in the Access Code and click "Go".
If any of the names are available, it will let me know. If they are taken, it will tell me that they are unavailable
and it will remove them from the list. Now I will repeat this process but instead of adding the word "homes"
at the end of each state, I might try "lawyers" now or "fun". You get the point.
Domain Redirects (Fowarding)
Let's say you have the domain richkits.com. And you have been advertising the name for awhile
but you suddenly decided you don't like the name anymore. So you register a new domain name
(Just as an example, let's pretend your new domain name is called "otherdomain.com".)
But you still have traffic going to richkits.com. Well with domain fowarding (Also known as a redirect),
you can send all of richkits.com traffic to the new domain. When people type in "richkits.com" or click on a link
for richkits.com, it will send them to otherdomain.com instead. Pretty cool huh!? Below are the instructions on
how to do this (I've used GoDaddy as an example but you can do this with pretty much any registrar).
To redirect a domain, log in to your GoDaddy account and go to "My Domains". Click on "Forward" on the menu at the top of the screen
Now click the "Enabled" option to enable forwarding. Then where it says "Forward To:" type in the domain
you would like to foward this domain to. After that, choose the "302 Moved Temporarily" option.
Now click the "OK" button at the bottom to confirm the changes.

Tips and Tricks for Selling
So we've already discussed how SEX.com sold for 14 million. Everyday thousands of domains are bought and sold.
There are so many different ways to sell domains. The pro's use alot of techniques and I will explain everything.
The places where the more expensive sales usually take place is sedo, afternic, tdnam, and ebay. Ebay is a good place to sell
domains for lower prices. Every once in a while I see odd domains that would seem like they aren't worth anything sell on ebay for
thousands of dollars each. But I usually use ebay as a way to double my money on lower priced domains.
I will use the Elimination Process that I explained earlier in this guide to find good names, and I will usually register them for $7-$11,
then turn around and resell them the same day for twice what I paid. At least once a month one of my lesser quality names that I am
only trying to sell for $20 or so will sell for a couple hundred on ebay. One of the tricks the guys on ebay use is to set a reserve price
and start the bidding very low. Many domain resellers on ebay start the bidding at .99 cents because they know they will get at least a few
bids at that price, and that bidding may cause other people to think that the domain is worth alot and cause them to bid on it too and sometimes
the bidding gets out of control and just keeps going higher and higher. I have started many domains at .99 cents and they ended up going into
the hundreds and selling for 100 times what I paid for them on the same day I registered them. But my goal is usually only to double
my money. I register domains and then sell them for around $30 each. If you can sell only 2 domain a day at that rate, you will be making
between $800-$1400 a month. Once in a while I have trouble selling a name or 2. If it doesn't sell, then I put it on a list.
Then I bundle the names that don't sell with my best names when I am ready to sell my best names. This will ensure that you will
get paid alot for the best name, and just adding the best name into a bundle will usually help the price increase. So let's say you
have the domain name buy-in-bulk.com and you know that you can sell that domain for $350. Try taking your names that
didn't sell and adding them into the listing. Sell buy-in-bulk.com with 2 other names that aren't selling and you may get $400 for it instead.
Sales
Leads
Two of the best ways to sell domains involves actively selling them. This is where the big money comes from.
The names that sell for big bucks are usually older, more well established names. But if you try to actively
sell a domain name to companies who may be interested, you have better luck at making big bucks with your
new domains that you just registered for the first time.
The first way to do this is to actually go out in the field to get people's attention. Start an auction on
auction sites such as ebay or onlineauction to create urgency. When people see an item on auction that
is ending at a certain time, it makes them want to purchase the domain name more quickly rather than
thinking about it. So start an auction for your domain name. List it on one of those sites and make the auction
for 10 days. Now, begin to build a mailing list. Start gathering email addresses of people and companies
that may be interested. Here is how to do this.......Let's say you have the domain buy-in-bulk.com. It sounds like
a wholesale domain name. The type of people interested in this domain name would be wholesalers. So I will go
to google.com and type in the word "wholesale suppliers", "wholesalers" or maybe just "wholesale" and maybe I
will add the phrases "contact us" and "email" into the google search (putting quotation marks around a phrase
will help the search and narrow it down to only websites that have the exact phrase "contact us" instead of
websites that may have the words "contact" and "us" but not used in the same phrase.I have 1,510,000 Google
results after performing this search. Now I will go down the list and check the "contact" section of each website
for the email address. Each one of these websites should bring you right to the contact/information page.
So you can easily copy email addresses and paste them into wordpad to save so you can send out a mass
email list later with your sales pitch. In the picture below you will notice that I underlined in red a couple
obvious emails. If you are trying to save time you don't even have to click on each website to get the emails.
Many of the email addresses are visibile directly after doing the google search and I'm sure that the ones
that are visible are enough for you because there's no way you can check all 1,510,000 website pages for
the individual emails on each page.
Another group of people that may be interested in this domain is whoever owns the other extensions of it.
If you own the .com version and the domain is older, there is a good possibility that other people own the other
extensions such as .net, .info, and .org........If someone owns buy-in-bulk.net and they are making money with the .net extension,
they would probably be interested in my .com extension because .com is the most popular extension. You can find out who owns a
domain name by using WHOIS. WHOIS checks who owns a domain. Sometimes people make their registration information private
so you can not find out who they are. But most domains are not private and you can check them using the whois tool at
http://www.networksolutions.com/whois/index.jsp . If I see a domain name that is expiring that is a .com, then I might check to see
if the .net or other extensions are taken and what kind of company has taken those extensions. If I see richkits.com is expiring
and I find out that a very profitable company owns .net, then I will try my hardest to catch richkits.com when it expires
so I can sell it to the company who owns .net. When checking WHOIS information, it will tell you the email address
of the domain owner if they have not made it private. So you can add those emails to your list. When sending out emails,
it is best to use a professional looking email extension. Hotmail. Yahoo, and Gmail emails are not very professional looking
and many people will delete your emails as soon as they see it. When you sign up for hosting with your domain, you have
the option of setting up your own email for your website. I own the domain richkits.com and I pay for monthly hosting on it
since it's my website so when I send an email out, it says CJ@richkits.com.
Create a Monopoly
If you have money, then making money with domains should be a breeze. I know it's a low down dirty thing to do,
but for people who really want to be sharks in the domain pool, you might want to consider creating a monopoly.
This is how the major stock traders do it and the same goes for domain investors. Here's what I mean....
Earlier I discussed a person who purchased all the 4 letter .com domains. Here, I'll quote myself just to remind
you of what I said: "In October of 2007, there was over 1000 four letter domains available
(Example: ldxv.com or qzdu.com).
By December of 2007, 2 months later, those 1000 domains were registered by people and there
were none available. In October you could have registered all 1000 domains for around $8.00 each.
In December prices for each 4 letter domain name on ebay were a minimum of $40.00 each.
(Whoever regged all 1000 domains made a nice profit. They had to have made a minimum profit of $32,000.)
The person who did that was smart because they created a monopoly. They bought up everything that was left of a certain
type of domain, just to drive prices up. The day that all the 4 letter domains were bought up, the value doubled and
just kept rising from there. If CaliforniaHomes.com is taken but MontanaHomes.com is not taken, then you can register
MontanaHomes.com for the first time at (include godaddy/dreamyhost). If OhioHomes.com is available too, you can
register that for the first time. If you register all the states like that, this may increase the value of them and the worth of
these names may double the same day! There will be no more domains like that left, so you will be holding all the cards.
If it's a very popular subject, people will pay lots of ridiculous money. But this can also be dangerous if you don't
know what you are doing. Don't be wreckless. Only invest big money in that many domains after you have done
enough research to make a wise decision.
Getting Paid
In the domain industry, paypal and escrow services are the
2 ways to pay. Paypal is usually used for domains
that are sold at a cheaper price (less than 1 thousand). If you sell domains for higher prices (for thousands or millions of dollars),
then most people will prefer you go through an escrow service. You can use Escrow.com for this..... If you are
selling domains on Sedo.com, tdnam.com, or any other large domain aftermarkets, many of them have their
own escrow service. But as far as auction sites such as ebay or onlineauction.com, you will want to mention
in the listing that you prefer to go through escrow if you are selling a domain that is very valuable. The way escrow
works is kind of like a middle-man. You transfer the domain to the escrow service, and the customer transfers the money
to the escrow service. Then the escrow service, after receiving both, transfers the money to you and the domain to the customer.
So you will want to make sure that if you go through your own escrow service, that they are a reputable company.
The
Big Boys:
All of these tips can make you
money and if you use them correctly and use a little of your own style or
creativity,
you could definately become very wealthy. But if you want to really think "outside the box", you may want to consider
starting your own parking company. You can build up traffic to your parking company website and get people to park at your website.
You can either learn how to build your own parking website or pay someone to do it. You can find people who will design this for
you by describing what you want done on www.GetaFreeLancer.com and letting people bid on it. This way you get the lowest price. Once you
have a parking website ready, you can negotiate with affilliate companies or advertisers..and then start putting ads on the pages. I've never
personally had the time to do all of this but it's something to think about.
Domain Industry Advice and Things to Be Careful of:
Start Small:
When I first
started, I thought of all these "catchy names" that I was sure would sell. I got
stuck with alot of worthless
names that I ended up selling for a few dollars each. Don't get carried away when you are registering domains.
Don't just buy domains that make sense to you either. If you live in a small town called "Wibby, Florida" that nobody's
ever heard of and you decide to register the domain wibbyflorida.com or wibbyrealestate.com, it's probably not
worth anything to anybody else but you. MiamiFlorida.com or MiamiRealEstate.com would be millions
because everybody knows Miami.
Scammers:
If you own
domains, you may receive phone calls or emails from scammers. They use the WHOIS
tool to find out information
about who owns domains such as email and phone numbers. One of the tricks they use to scam people out of money is that
they act like they are interested in a domain. They will send you an email and say that they are interested in paying you thousands
for your domain. Then when you send an email back saying that you will sell it for that much, they tell you that they want
it to be appraised. They will tell you that they only trust 1 appraisal company and they will try to trick you to get you
to appraise your domain for them through the appraisal company. Well you pay $40 for an appraisal and they come back
and say they are not interested in the domain name. What they did not tell you, is that THEY ARE THE APPRAISAL COMPANY.
They just made $40 off of you to tell you that your domain is not worth anything. You still have the domain and they have your money now.
I own about 500 domain names and they have tried to scam me with this twice now in 2 years. So it doesn't happen that often,
but be careful. If they are really interested in your domain, they should be willing to pay for the appraisal, NOT YOU.
Independent Appraisals and "Advice"
Another thing is independent appraisals. Sometimes they are right, but alot of times they are not.
Im referring to these "domain gurus" who chat on forums like namepros.com. There is an appraisal section
and when I was a newbie, I asked for advice from them. I asked the namepros community to appraise some of my
domains and many of the ones they told me were worth nothing, sold for hundreds of dollars.
They even told me 2 of my domain names were worth "less than reg fee".Well one of those names I sold on sedo for $150
and the other I sold on ebay for $190. But the people on namepros said these names were worth nothing.
Google Indexing
Whenever you type something on the internet, it's very probable that google is going to index it.
Google indexing is when google includes parts of the internet in it's search results. If I go to youtube
and watch a video and decide to comment on it, I can type a comment in the box underneath the video.
Well, later that day, my comment will probably be indexed by google. So if I said in the comment box
"Wow that's a cool video, the dog in your video is funny", that comment will be indexed. So when someone
searches for "funny dog in video" in google, they may see my comment in google results. This is the worst
thing for a domain sale. Imagine you go on namepros and ask them how much your domain "fungidgets.com"
is worth and they tell you that it is only worth $100. Now you try to sell that domain on Sedo for $500 and someone
searches google for the term "fungidgets.com". They will see that comment you left and they will also see the independent
appraisal for $100 and they will offer you $100 instead of $500. Your average person will not think about this, but people
in the domain industry always search google results before buying a domain name so they can see if people ever talked about
the domain on forums etc.
So when you sell a domain on ebay or any forums, or if you mention a domain name of yours,
you may want to type "gidgetsfun(.)com" or even "gidgetsfun DOT com" instead of typing "gidgetsfun.com"
because then when people search for "gidgetsfun.com" they will not see it in the google search results.
When you sell a domain on ebay, this is not necessary.
You do not need to do this because after the sale, the listing page disappears eventually
(it usually takes about 1 month though). But you may have customers who choose not to leave feedback because
the feedback stays forever as long as you are a member on ebay. So if you sell domains on ebay or anywhere else,
please keep this in mind. Your customers may not want you to leave feedback because they may want to resell
the domain they bought from you to someone else again. I usually leave feedback after customers leave feedback first for
this reason.
